5th Grade

We will miss you!

As the school year comes to a close it is hard not to reflect back on the years these young artists have spent with me. It has been truly an honor to see each fifth grader grow into the young adults and budding artists that they are. While some excel in academics and others excel in sports, the art room has been a place where all fifth graders have shown passion, grit, effort, and creativity! I am so proud of each and every one of them and wish them well as they move on to bigger and better things. All fifth graders will be coming home with their final elementary school art portfolio so treasure it! They worked very hard this year and created some really amazing and inspiring pieces of artwork. :)

Collaboration left and right!

Fifth graders at Washington and Franklin have been working well together on collaborative artwork. Fifth graders at Washington have been designing and creating giant Keith Haring inspired banners for their Spring music concert to be displayed the night of the performance. Pictures of them in action are posted on the classroom Instagram @summitartists. Fifth graders at Franklin in the mural art club have now have had two full sessions of painting under their belts. The wall is already looking super bright and exciting and they are really excited about what it will look like once they finish. Pictures on Instagram!

Preparing for Middle School

First graders have had an amazing year in art so far! We've designed creative color wheels, practiced our color theory and color mixing, created large value blending crayon compositions, worked on optical illusions, and have started a new perspective skill called foreshortening. We are challenging ourselves and pushing our creative limits in preparation for middle school art! Stay up to date on Instagram @summitartists

Unity in the classroom

posted Oct 20, 2015, 10:39 AM by Jaimie Woodruff

Fifth graders have been finishing up their continuous line drawings and will begin a new unit next week. As fifth graders not only do we cover art techniques and skills, but we make sure to relate what we do in the classroom to our real lives.
Next week the fifth graders will begin to talk about Unity in the classroom, while we dive head first into a unit on Value and creating 3-D forms. Stay tuned for some more information about Unity and our Value artwork.
